Welcome to the Washington State Family & Community Engagement Trust

We are a nonprofit organization working to reinvent the way families, schools and communities partner to support student achievement and well-being. We work to:

  • Engage all families in the education and development of their children.

  • Build collective knowledge about the power of working together for student success.

  • Promote positive change in the public education system.

  • Develop collaborative networks to support children and families.

It's About Kids

Students do better in school and life when families and communities play active roles in public education. This takes intentionality, planning, and hard work. We work to increase opportunities for the equitable participation of families and communities in the achievement and emotional, social and physical development of children, cradle to career.

It's About Change

Public education is a collaborative process, yet home, school, and community are often treated as disconnected spheres of influence. We envision transformed schools and communities where the collaborative work of families, schools and stakeholders are cornerstones of student success and well-being. We advocate for change through:

  • Leadership training for educators, parents and community members.

  • Technical assistance to community organizations and schools.

  • Policy advocacy that identifies gaps and proposes actions to include families and communities in the legislative process.

  • Partnerships with education and other stakeholders working to support children and families.

We inform, educate, and connect families, schools and stakeholders through our Leadership and Research Center, a clearinghouse of technical assistance, research, resources and tools. Our News column keeps stakeholders updated on current news and events affecting children and families.

It's About All of Us Working Together

Collaboration is key to student success and well-being. We unite stakeholders for collective impact by creating collaborative networks that identify challenges and opportunities for family engagement, develop effective models for change, and implement best practices. Together, we advocate for education policies that include participation and input of families and communities in the public education process.

Nearly 3,000 people have joined our Family Engagement Network, have you?

ParentNet trains parents to facilitate grade-level meetings in their schools, outreach to other parents and develop strong school-family partnerships.  We welcome to our newest ParentNet schools Olympic Middle School in Mukilteo, WA and Pinewood Elementary in Marysville, WA and look forward to working with the schools interested in implementing ParentNet next school year.

What parents are saying about ParentNet:

“This is a great program. I commend our principal for bringing such an innovative approach to parent engagement.”

“I learned so much from other parents in our first ParentNet meeting!  We should have had this program since Kindergarten!”

“Please keep this program going in our school.  Great way to learn and meet parents that I wouldn’t have normally met.”
